Remember,
regular listening is the key to success!
A
self-help relaxing recording for children aged about
4-9 years who want to stop sucking their thumb and /
or their fingers. Of course it may be the parent or the
dentist who is most concerned and committed to this so
bear in mind that it isn’t possible to force children to
do something against their will. Nevertheless often
children themselves would quite like to stop but they
just don’t know how to do it. This gentle & relaxing recording
can help them feel more confident and comforted
without the need to suck the thumb so they can more
easily and happily let the habit go. Some children
may do this more or less immediately while some
may do it more
gradually over a period of time. Children can be proud
and parents and dentists delighted when the children are
successful. Remember that success at first may consist
of doing it much less rather than stopping completely
overnight!
Play the
recording at bedtime
They can relax
and drift off to sleep at the end. If you find that they
fall asleep more or less immediately, let them listen at
a quiet time earlier on before bedtime instead, or as
well as, when they go to bed. The recording should be in
addition to, rather than instead of, any usual bedtime
rituals or stories so that they don’t feel deprived in
any way.
Imaginative
framework
The
story takes children on an imaginary swinging hammock
that turns into a magic hammock and flies off to meet
other children who want to get rid of habits that they
are ‘fed up with’. They bathe and play in the
special, magic pool receiving powerful suggestions for
feeling strong, comfy, confident, grown up and happy
to be in charge of their thumbs. Then they imagine
themselves
happily acting out everyday activities being firmly in
charge of their thumbs and feeling very proud of
themselves. At this point they rejoin their magic
hammock and fly home to their beds and snuggle down to
sleep.
Successful
approach
This kind of
approach is completely natural. Research shows
that when a person first acts out each positive step in
their imagination, it increases the likelihood of their
success in the real world. This CD contains powerful
suggestions for boosting confidence and self-esteem.
The language and topics used are carefully
crafted to appeal to the interests of this particular
age group. NB Some children may seem more or less
mature than their chronological age.
